SCORPIO – AQUARIUS

Linda Goodman’s “Love Signs”, page 745.

One pastime Scorpio and Aquarius both enjoy (or maybe I should say are unable to resist) when they’re together is probing each other’s secrets. Both are born detectives, and neither can stand not knowing what makes the other tick. They’ll take each other apart, like the works of a clock, Scorpio in a subtle, deceptively casual manner, Aquarius in an occasionally rude and always very direct manner. I’m sure the Aquarians reading this will be protesting that they’re not interested in anyone’s business, and therefore are not snoopy. True, they aren’t interested for the purpose of passing on gossip or being judgmental, but they are very much interested in checking things out, in accumulating data, so to speak.

The thing is, although both Scorpio and Aquarius would like to learn everything they can about each other, neither wants her (or his) own mysteries unveiled. Obviously, it’s a situation fraught with all sorts of possibilities. Each individual relationship is different, but normally the Scorpion has a slight edge on the Water Bearer when it comes to plumbing the other person’s secrets, while managing to keep one’s own personal eccentricities and private idiosyncrasies under lock and key. Not always, but most of the time.

Another wee difficulty they’ll have to overcome is that both Scorpio and Aquarius are Fixed Signs. Fixed is one degree this side of stubborn. By “this side” I mean on the side of slightly more so. Like, unmoving. Difficult to budge from a position. The problem is, I believe, self-evident. The solution requires one or both of them to have the Moon or Ascendent in a more flexible sign. This would help a great deal. Very little else will. But the wisdom of the stars will usually ensure that at least one of them is influenced by Mutable planet positions at birth. (Of course, Fixed also means stable and lasting, so, like everything else, it has its positive side).

One difference between these two is that Scorpio has a long, long memory (only the memory of the Bull is longer, with the Crab running third) – and Aquarius is doing well to recall where her (or his) car is parked. This absent-mindedness of the Uranus genius does come in handy, however, for forgetting old wounds. The typical Water Bearer will seldom hold a grudge or go out of the way to get even. Scorpio would do well to imitate this Aquarian trait. On the other side of the fence, Scorpio is an expert in the fine art of self-control, not always, but usually keeping his (or her) emotions disciplined, and Aquarius would do well to imitate Scorpio’s Pluto composure and poise, since the average Water Bearer possesses very little self-control and can flash into a streak of anger as unexpectedly as a lightning bolt (although it normally just as quickly passes).

[…]

Still, with all their interwoven and tangled qualities and clashing habits, an association between Scorpio and Aquarius is potentially an interesting experiment and experience for each of them, even for the innocent bystanders and onlookers. It’s educational…enlightening. There’s one quality Pluto and Uranus bestow upon both Scorpio and Aquarius – one word that describes the influence of these stars over both their personalities: “unpredictable”. This same word perfectly sums up all possible scores in any compatibility game between them. But neither Scorpio nor Aquarius would have it any other way. The Eagle and the Water Bearer are not the kind to enjoy making a bet on a sure thing.

Water Bearers and I.

I don’t really know, how other Scorpios deal with Water Bearers, but my experience just happens to confirm what I read in Linda Goodman’s book. Or maybe I just fit what I read into my experience. Does it really matter?

Well, anyway, this post is dedicated to Water Bearers I keep meeting. The sign begins on January 21 and ends on February 19. I know two of them; one is born at the beginning and the other right at the end of the sign. And there are plenty in-between. And, yes, if you read to the end, THEY DO BELONG IN THE MONKEY HOUSE!

But still, I guess “Happy Birthday” to them all and “Beware!”, “Be Patient!” and “Let them be!” to me.

********************************************************************

The SCORPIO – AQUARIUS Relationship

From Linda Goodman’s “Love Signs”, page 743

…they are very wild and difficult of approach.

Yes, there are. Both of them. And so, at the outset, I’ll say that I am not going to take sides with either of these squared Sun Signs of the 4-10 vibrational pattern. Throughout this chapter, I intend to remain in the middle, neutral, like Canada and Switzerland. On second thought, the literal middle may not be a safe place to be. One is then wide open and exposed to becoming the recipient of whatever these two may fling at each other, like words, baseball bats, boomerangs, yo-yos, hula hoops, Frisbees, insults, compliments, rage, respect – any number of unexpected things.

However, moving right along, and still bravely trying t remain in the middle, it must be admitted that Aquarians are very wild, undeniably – and that Scorpios are difficult of approach, indisputably. Ergo, therefore, i.e.: as a combination, the Water Bearer and the Eagle are indeed very wild and difficult of approach. Separately or together, but especially together.

One wonders how these two ever manage to get together in the first place. One also wonders if it is wise for these two to get together, in the second place. The square between their Sun Signs admittedly creates a certain amount of tension (like, each thinks the other is playing with half a deck, has bats in the belfry and is completely loco – you get the general idea), but in astrology, tension is synonymous with energy (also in physics; therefore, ever more so in meta-physics). So let’s say that there is a lot of …uh, energy (we are being tactful) between 4-10 Sun Sign Pattern like Scorpio-Aquarius. The problem is – no, let’s try to be positive – the question is: What are the Eagle and the Water Bearer going to do with this tremendous flow of tension (I mean energy) passing back and forth between them? Are they going to channel it into senseless conflict – or into the kind of powerful energy that makes windmills spin, ships sail, trains run, birds fly …. And spacecraft break the time barrier?

Just because someone looks upon life through one end of a telescope, and you gaze through the other, is no reason to quarrel and fuss. If it were the same telescope, you’d see that you were both gazing at each other. (Well, hello there! Fancy meeting you, of all people, in the middle of a telescope!) Of course, one pair of eyes would look smaller, the other larger, because that’s how telescopes are made, but you are not a telescope. You are an Aquarian, who should not take such a distorted view of all Scorps as sneaky, conservative, ruthless, stingy nasties. And you are an Eagle, who must stop taking such a distorted view of all Water Bearers as people who belong in the monkey house at the zoo, except that the monkeys might object. That kind of energy wouldn’t power a windmill so much as half a turn, chug a train out of the station or lift a bird from the branch of a tree, wings or no wings.

********************************************************************

Throwing things at Aquarians – absolutely! What infuriating creatures!

However…

********************************************************************

“Yet, when the Air and Water elements get together as two Sun Signs, and really work at harmony the result can be as inspiring, uplifting and intoxicating as the scent of fresh rain, mixed with the air of spring, falling on new-mown hay or grass. Is there any fragrance on this Earth more gorgeous and bursting with miracles than this? You don’t have to live on a farm or in the country to answer in the affirmative. Wet city sidewalks, freshly rained upon, coupled with the warm air of spring, will have the same dizzying effect upon the sensitive soul.

[…] I hope (seriously) that this paragraph has impressed you with the possibilities of beauty in an association between Aquarius and Scorpio when they both work at it. It takes some self-sacrifice, but it’s so worthwhile.

********************************************************************

Harmony? What a temptation!

When Tolerance was being distributed…

Scorpio came first. He asked what Tolerance was and whether it could be used for torture. Having heard the answer, he grew gloomy, wrote down something in his black notebook and left, waving his whip.

Capricorn did not think it was respectable enough for him to be seen pushing his way through the crowd, so he sent a courier – Sagittarius. Sagittarius took as much Tolerance as he could fit in his knapsack, but on his way back he was distracted, carried away, went abroad and lost his knapsack there. To Capricorn he wrote that only assholes gave such assignments and continued his journey without luggage.

Along came provident Cancer and picked up Tolerance that was dropped by Sagittarius. Cancer stashed it away. Somewhere. Sometimes he finds it, all of it at once, but then he fears that it might be stolen, stashes it away in a different place and forgets where again. And when Cancer begins complaining that all the people around him are not friends but a wolf pack, it means that he lost his Tolerance again.

Libra came in time and asked for a couple of elegant Tolerances, please. Despite the fact that Libra actually got what he asked for, he very rarely uses either of the two Tolerances because Libra cannot really decide which is better.

Aquarius came one of the first, but was promptly kicked out of the queue when he said that the creator of “Tolerance” was an amateur lacking both skill and imagination and his “Creation” looked no better than what preschoolers usually do under poor supervision. Aquarius would do a much better job, when he would have enough time, that is.

Virgo spent too much time calculating exactly how much Tolerance of exactly what Standard and Specification he needed. Therefore his missed his queue and got very little Tolerance of the Highest Standard. To make up for it, Virgo also got a device with which Tolerance was weighed. Now Virgo keeps his own miniscule Tolerance of the Highest Quality to himself and goes around with his weighing device measuring everybody else’s tolerance.

Aries wanted to come first, but on his way he met Pisces who had already got Tolerance. Pisces managed to run away, but their Tolerance was dramatically damaged. There where Aries got to Pisces (suffice it to say that Aries got almost everywhere), Pisces’ Tolerance became cracked and misshapen so much that it discontinued to look like Tolerance altogether.

Aries turned back and went home because he was not a loser not to be the first in line, especially not after Pisces. However, Aries liked the word “Tolerance” so much, that he engraved it on his baseball bat.

Leo did not come at all, because he did not know what Tolerance was. And since he did not know it was clear enough that he did not need it.

Taurus came only to tell that he already had Tolerance of his own which was the Best. Those who disagree could get lost and the quicker the better.

After everybody left, very late at night “a slightly detained” Gemini came… to find only a tiny heap of scraps, left-overs, odds and ends, odd-come-shorts et cetera. He looked around and took it all. Therefore Gemini has an abundant supply of Tolerance; however, sometimes it seems that he had found it on the garbage heap.

By the way, for those unaware what Tolerance is

a willingness to be tolerant and respectful toward people whose opinions or ways differ from one’s own.

tolerant – willing to let other people do as they think best;

willing to allow beliefs and actions of which one does not approve.
