Boris Pasternak. February.

Boris Pasternak (1890 – 1960)

February

February. Get ink, shed tears.
Write of it, sob your heart out, sing,
While torrential slush that roars
Burns in the blackness of the spring.

Go hire a buggy. For six grivnas,
Race through the noise of bells and wheels
To where the ink and all you grieving
Are muffled when the rain shower falls.

A Candle Burned

Boris Pasternak (1890 – 1960)

Winter’s Night

Blizzards were blowing everywhere
Throughout the land.
A candle burned upon the table,

Only roofs and snows, and save for
Roofs and snow – no one at home.

Once more, frost [...]

In Vino Veritas

Alexandr Blok (1880 – 1921)

Unknown Woman

Above the restaurants in the evenings
The sultry air is wild and still,
And the decaying breath of spring
Drives drunken shouting.

Above the dusty distant lanes
The boredom of summer homes,
The baker’s gold sign barely shines
And a child’s crying rings out.

Each night, beyond the crossing gates,
With bowler hats tipped rakishly,
The practiced wits stroll with [...]

Well, isn’t it a New Beginning?

End it!

January begins with the advice “End it!”.  The advice is related to my “non-relationship” with the man I am in love with.  I called him an entity in a cyberspace, but what I really wanted to say was “NON-entity”.

Moving on.  January is a time to begin, not to end.  But every ending is a [...]
